The Best Laptops For Under $550 (August 2009)

Toshiba Satellite L305-S5961 15.4-inch Laptop: Toshiba, a brand synonymous to durability and reliability has been producing a wide array of laptops to cater for every niche imaginable in the laptop market. The Toshiba Satellite L305-S5961 is designed to give the best value for consumers who are on a budget.

It runs of Intel’s Pentium Dual Core T4200 processor (2 Ghz) and comes with 2GB of RAM (max of 4GB). For storage, there is a 250GB hard drive. This model runs on Windows Vista (home premium edition). The 15.4-inch display has a 1280 x 800 resolution, which is great for  hp ryzen 3  viewing movies and viewing multiple applications. The Toshiba Satellite L305-S5961 comes with 3 USB 2.0 connectors, a 5-in-1 card reader, and ExpressCard slot and a series of other standard ports. It is also wi-fi ready (802.11b/g). At the time of writing, this model costs around $480 each. Talk about a bargain!

Gateway M-7356U 15.4-inch Notebook: I have always been a fan of Gateway laptops as they have a sleek and professional look. This model is red in color, sporting a red exterior and on the area near the track pad. It measures at 14 x 10.1 x 1.4 inches and weighs just 5.87 pounds. Like the Toshiba model above, this model runs on the same 2.0Ghz processor. In terms of memory, the Gateway M-7356U comes with 4GB of RAM. It also has 320GB for storage. It also comes with a dual layer DVD drive, a card reader and wi-fi capabilities (802.11 b/g/draft-n). Currently, the Gateway M-7356U cost around $550 each.

Compaq Presario CQ60-420US 15.6-inch Laptop: This model sports a minimalist design, with a matte black casing and rounded edges. The Compaq Presario CQ60-420US runs on the same 2 Ghz model as the other two models above. It comes with 3 GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. Its other specifications are also quite similar to the two models above. It currently costs around $490 each.
